List of Gruesome Murders Of Kenyan Women In 2019 As Numbers Spike

The gain of gender equality in Kenya is far from being achieved and if the number of women killed in 2019 in Kenya is to go by, then the Country is moving on a downhill trend as already over 85 women have been murdered in horrendous ways between 1st of January to 20th of November 2019.
They were people’s daughters, mothers, sisters, aunties, colleagues, and friends but the manner they were killed in was undeserving of any human being or animal, it was gross, was it because they were women?
Women are naturally known to be weaker creatures physically and the call for equality might have had them imagine that they are of equal measure when it comes to their physical prowess which can rarely be the case making them unable to defend themselves in fights.
The lack of shame for the gruesome murder of over 85 women through Gender-Based Violence (GBV) has been outright in the type of lyrics scripted in songs encouraging men to melt violence against women.
It is a generation where music with content demeaning women sells without a sign of sympathy to the victims whose bodies lay rotten in the graves with crushed hopes and dreams as the ‘artists’ meander the streets preaching the gospel of pigwa shoka without any sign of shame.
Between the 1st of January 2019 to the 30th of June 2019, at least 60 women had been reported dead through Gender-Based Violence, a number that grew to at least 82 by 14th November 2019.
It is because they once breathed, lived, laughed, worked, gave birth and meant the World to their loved ones that we need to take a look at their faces, to remind ourselves of the rot within our society that we must work on and to share in the pain of their loved ones.
If nothing is done to help stop the killing of women in relationships, marriages and in their day to day life, then tomorrow it could be you or me, as women, we stand vulnerable to a gender empowered physically to protect us.
Below is a look at a number of women who have died in the most horrendous manner and in the hands of men they loved and called partners, some, even the father to their children.
Murder of Joyce Syombua
At only 31 years of age, Joyce Syombua was a mother of two, Shanice Maua 10 and Prince Michael 5 years of age, and separated from her husband who worked as a Major at the Nanyuki Barracks, Major Peter Mugure.
In what seemed to have been a meditated murder, Major Peter Mugure is reported to have invited Joyce to visit him with the two children after he had won a court suit allowing him to see his children.
Joyce Syombua readied to visit her estranged partner and father to her children amid pleas from her mother not to embark on the journey, Joyce’s mother reported that the children were beside themselves with excitement as they could not wait to go visit their father after a long separation.
Major Peter Mugure is reported to have welcomed Joyce Syombua and his two children who were oblivious of their fate, it is during their two-day stay that they were murdered and buried in a shallow grave in Thindigua, Nanyuki, news that shocked Kenyans across the Country. Major Peter Mugure remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
Murder of Lucy Kanira, 26-Year-Old
At only 26 years of age, the body of beautiful Lucy Kanira was disfigured in the most painful manner before it resulted in her untimely death.
According to Lucy Kanira, he was once a beautiful marriage and together with her spouse, Bernard Kariha who was 24 years of age, they were once a couple that was envied before Kariha began to develop a violent jealousy attitude.
On that fateful day, Kariha had given Lucy 10,000 shillings for her to travel to Nairobi and buy clothes she could resell; she was to travel on Friday, the 27 of September 2019 and return early on 28th September 2019.
Lucy returned to her spouse on the expected Saturday but in the evening, and not on the morning hours they had agreed on, upon which Kariha attacked her with Petrol and torched her finally leading to her death.
Kanira was a mother to three beautiful children who since left orphaned as her husband was taken into custody to face murder charges.
Murder of Vera Beauty Student, 21-Year-Old Emma Wanyota
At 21 years of age, Emma Wanyota had her whole life ahead of her but an obsessed suspect who was only identified as Mustafa chose to end her life in the most gruesome manner.
Emma, who was alone at her parents’ home in Moi’s Bridge, Uasin Gishu County was attacked with a blunt object on the head, raped and then her legs were chopped from the thighs as other deep cuts were inflicted by the suspect.
“When I got home, I did not find my daughter in the house but my living room was in a total mess with blood splattered all over the walls,” Emma’s mother, Beatrice Luseno, painfully recounted.
The murder of 28-Year-Old Mercy Talam
Mercy Talam, on 18th June 2019, was busy preparing food for the man she loved, Henry Kosgei, they had argued but as is normal in a majority of African homes, she had an unwritten responsibility to cook for the man, little did she know it would be the last supper she would have to prepare.
Henry Kosgei, 34 years of age, could not wait for his wife to finish cooking as he attacked her with a knife. Kosgei was arrested as he ran away with a rope; it was suspected that he had intended to commit suicide after realizing his actions.
