4 Kenyan Legislators Travelled With the fourth Coronavirus Victim from London

Four Kenyan legislators allegedly travelled in the same plane with the fourth Coronavirus patient who was confirmed positive by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

According to the Senate Majority leader, Kipchumba Murkomen, the four legislators and some staff members of the Parliamentary Service Commission were on board the plane that had the fourth Coronavirus patient who arrived in Kenya on March 9, 2020.

Honorable Murkomen revealed that the Members of Parliament who travelled from London with the Covid-19 patient were Naomi Shaban (Taita Taveta), Adan Keynan (Eldas) and Senators George Khaniri (Vihiga) and Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho).

Naomi Shaban and Adan Keynan were kicked out of the parliamentary buildings after other MPs led by majority Leader Aden Duale raised concerns that they had travelled from London.

“Honorable Speaker, some of the MPs are taking this matter casually and we need to be serious, this epidemic can heat us badly,” Garissa MP, Aden Duale said.

“The Commissioner just arrived from London. For the sake of the health of MPs, I ask you to order him out of the house. This is a serious matter.”

It is likely that the Members of Parliament did not go by the requirement that anyone who arrives in the country from the Coronavirus affected countries should self-quarantine for 14 days.

Following the events in the Parliamentary buildings over the coronavirus scare, the parliamentary meetings were adjourned to April 14, 2020.

“I have just moved a motion adjourning the Senate from today 17th March 2020 until Tuesday 14th April 2020 at 2.30 PM in regard to COVID-19,” Senator Murkomen said.

Kenya now has four confirmed cases of the covid-19. The cases were reported in a span of five days which shows that Kenyans should be vigilant to avoid further spread.
