List Of 10 Careers That Pay The Highest In Kenya

Money is used as a form of rewarding one’s services as pay and is a key motivator in most jobs and the more the money, the more one is held in the society.
Various careers are known to be better paying even when one does not need to spend much in school, we take a look at the highest paying careers in Kenya and then you can decide whether you would like to shift after COVID-19.
It is however important to note that every career in the World will present you a batch of successful people and another of failed people, it is important to understand what you are made of to avoid wasting money that you will never recover.
Having your heart in what you intend to do is always important as before you start banking cheques, you will go through rough times that will either kill or make you stronger.
“When I was in school, I used to dream of being a musician but realized I had no financial ability to pay for my recording and so I dropped it to become a teacher, I specialized in music and now teach music classes part-timely,” Gladys, a gospel musician said.
The career you are pursuing is not a definite guarantee that you will be rich in no time, some people build empires through music but while others build theirs by applying make-up, what is important is to have your heart in what you do.
There are, however careers that have been seen to produce the richest in the society thanks to the fat cheques that are signed on monthly basis not to forget the benefits that come with the careers. We take a look at the highest paying careers and invite your opinion on them:
- Politicians
The riskiest, dirtiest, highest paying career in Kenya is politics. Politicians in Kenya sell empty promises in return for votes to public offices which assure them of hefty bank balances every end month.
Politicians in Kenya are rewarded with juicy perks such as entertainment allowance, vehicles and security detail.
In Kenya, a Member of Parliament earns around 710,000 shillings on a monthly basis.
Politics are however crowded and unless one gets to a public office, then there is barely any other way to make money.
- Engineering
The Big Four agendas come with a key need for engineers as agendas such as affordable housing require the expertise of engineers.
With COVID-19, most engineers have been affected and with Kenya importing the expertise from China, becoming an engineer in Kenya could leave you tarmacking for long in search if employment.
Engineers are paid depending on their level of expertise and the more experienced one is then the more likely they are to bag fatter cheques.
- Medicine
With the CIOVID-19 outbreak in Kenya, medics are the most sought-after experts and who since time immemorial have been known to profit in treating illnesses.
A bachelor’s degree in medicine can only be pursued with someone who has scored a strong A grade in their national secondary exams.
The demand for Doctors has and will never die out, not while there is a need to live and illnesses continue to threaten that need.
A qualified Doctor in Kenya currently takes home at least 100,000 shillings with the amount increasing depending on the institution one works in and their level of expertise.
- Pilots
Pilots have always been admired by most children, I remember I once wanted to be a pilot when I grew up and so did three-quarters of the class after all they operate near the sky and not even that should limit anyone.
Being a pilot guarantees you of decent pay and I you are fully fledged, then open more bank accounts as you will get paid on hourly basis.
Pilots who have gained experience to become captains take home anything around a million shillings every month.
Pilots are also paid per diems which they are most likely not getting currently as passenger planes are grounded to control the spread of COVID-19.
5.Architects
The demand for housing in Kenya has currently shrunk a bit especially in Nairobi as Approval Department was scrapped off creating confusion but do not let that mislead you, the people that design houses pocket neat amounts of money.
Architects increase their financial worth depending on their experience in a career that is heavily dependent on talent and passion.
- Actuarial Science
Actuarial science is one of the least crowded courses in Kenya as it is considered the toughest to pursue in the university.
Most students who join universities to pursue actuarial science drop halfway the course while those that finish successfully bag at least 100,000 shillings in a month just as freshers in the industry.
- Law
Kenya is known for many evils including corruption and frauds, those involved in the practices are also very keen to manipulate the law to favor them and behold the lawyers’ pockets.
The more a lawyer wins a publicized case, the more they are on-demand with the highest-paid lawyers being the likes of Clifford Ombeta and Nelson Havi.
- Information Technology
From web designers to web hosts, technology had evolved how life happens and with the outbreak of COVID-19, the services of IT experts has risen on demand.
Simple IT jobs cost up to 100,000 and could be a job that could be done in a span of less than a week.
- Media People
Media personnel has been among those highest paid especially news anchors in major media outlets such as KTN, NTV, CITIZEN, and K24.
News anchors earned up to half a million shillings in a month though the same cannot be said about journalists.
Established Journalists choose to produce and sell content which earns them better returns. The media industry is however a crowded one with COVID-19 hitting them hard following low advertising.
- Procurement
Devolution has brought a higher rise in the need for procurement officers to help in the management of resources.
The currently crowded field of procurement earns one a monthly of as low as 40,000 and as high as 500,000 shillings depending on where one is working.
