How to Resolve Conflict in Business

Every business encounters minor issues be it a project delay or difficult relationships among employees, It is important to learn how resolve smaller issues in time. In every workplace there will always be that one or two people who cause problems for everyone else.

The need for effective conflict resolution practices is present in all areas of any society. Businesses, governments, family life all require a certain level of cooperation in order to function effectively.  Conflict  management  strategies  should  be designed  to  enhance  peaceful  coexistence,  promote stability, organizational   learning   and   performance.

Before you try to settle the conflict insure you have investigated both sides of the issue. Try to understand the situation.

Emotional outbursts or coercing people may stop the problem temporarily, but do not fool yourself into thinking it is a long-term solution. The problem will resurface and you will not only have the initial problem to deal with, but also the angry feelings that have below the surface during the interim.

Ask the individuals with conflict to express themselves unemotionally and convince them to understand each other’s perspective.

The ultimate goal in conflict resolution is for both parties to resolve the issue between themselves. Allow both parties to express their viewpoint, but also share your perspective. Attempt to facilitate the meeting and help them pinpoint the real issue causing conflict.
