The Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) is a system that is geared towards creating a secure, reliable, efficient, effective and fully integrated management financial system whose main objective is to see to it that public funds that are budgeted for various purposes are used for the intended purpose without being diverted for personal gain.

The system is missioned to enhance the government’s efforts and its capacity to innovate and leverage the best technology, to provide for fully integrated financial management system and, in the process, eliminate all the possible channels that have previously been used to divert public funds for personal gain by some few individuals.

IFMIS is a transformative and strategic tool by the Government of Kenya in embracing modernity and in making sure that the economy of the country grows beyond limits and always be the maiden indisputable economic hub of East Africa.

At the moment, IFMIS in Kenya is the best and perhaps that is the reason why the country has had delegations from many African countries including Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Philippines and Malawi that have come to learn from the effectiveness of the system in the country so that they can apply the same in their respective countries.

Mr. Patrick Kekembo, the IT Manager at the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority in Uganda applauded the advanced technical infrastructure set in place to enhance service delivery to the users of the system. The delegation from Uganda noted the stabilization of the system by the Kenyan Government and the e-procurement process linkage to the Public Finance Management Act regulations.

The uptake of the automated procurement and payment system across the National and County governments has actually uplifted the profile of Kenya as the regional center of excellence in public finance management. This has generated interest from governments in East Africa and beyond.
