What you Need to Know Before Investing in Turkana County

Turkana County, which was in the former Rift Valley Province is the second largest County in Kenya. The County covers more than 13 per cent of Kenya’s surface. Turkana County is bordered by Uganda to the West, South Sudan and Ethiopia to the north and northeast and Lake Turkana to the East. Neighboring counties include West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu and Marsabit.

For many years, Turkana has often been referred to as the barren land. What can be invested in Turkana County?

Turkana County has got many resources that can be invested in. The County offers great potential in uncounted promising fields that include transport, agriculture, fishing, geothermal and wind power production, real estate as well as water bottling.

There are so many tourist attraction sites in Turkana County which paves way to investors who may be interested to invest there. Among the attraction sites, Lake Turkana, Sibiloi National Park and two Islands on L. Turkana that migratory birds use as stopping grounds. The parks are also habitats for the Nile crocodiles, hippopotamus as well as snakes.

Ever since oil was discovered in Turkana, the number of tourists visiting the area has greatly increased thus making the county a place to be for businesses. More hotels need to be built o as to accommodate the increased number of tourists.

Infrastructure too is another area that can be invested in, especially construction of roads leading to the tourist attraction sites and the hotels. The county government of Turkana offers many tenders for such developments.

The Masai market, which is well known for selling of traditional goods like, shukas, beads, sandals and many more goodies from different Kenyan communities to tourists can be an area of investment in Turkana County.

Both International and Local tourists visit the county during the Turkana Tourist and Cultural Festival that takes places once every year. This is the best platform for investors to come and showcase and market what they have.
