Kenya 7s Team Shines in USA Rugby Sevens

The USA rugby sevens circuit is over and the key focus was Kenya. Humphrey Kayange and Collins Injera have been playing together since they were in the backyard back home and that is clear for all to see.

They raised their game yet again in America and that victory over New Zealand, 22-0, was one of the wins of the series as New Zealand were placed equal top coming here but they were just rolled aside by Kenya. It just underscores that Kenya, when they are in the mood with the right setting and support, they still score amazing wins which thrill the sevens world.

Kenya was able to clinch a spot in the main cup quarter finals after winning their first two games but they were bundled out from the main cup quarter finals.
This meant that they compete for the plate title but they fell short of that also after being beaten by Japan in the plate semi finals.

Despite failing to win a trophy at the just concluded Las Vegas Sevens, the fifth round of the series, Kenya did not drop in the rankings. Shujaa bagged 10 points after winning three group matches, before losing in two knock-out matches (against USA and Japan). The 19-14 loss to Japan on Sunday night in the Plate semifinal condemned Shujaa to a trophy-less fifth round. Benjamin Ayimba’s boys now have 52 points from five legs, 39 points behind defending champions and current series leader Fiji, who made a remarkable comeback to beat Australia 21-15 in the Main Cup final.
Focus now shifts to the Vancouver Sevens, Canada this weekend, where Kenya is in Group A alongside reigning Series champions Fiji, Samoa and Portugal.

The team must now focus on coming home with a trophy in Canada in order to increase our ranking in the sevens circuit. Going by how they played in Las Vegas it shows that we are a force to be reckoned with and at times when duty calls we never disappoint. GO Shujaa!!
