SEACOM Donates Medical Equipment to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Langata

Pan African internet provider SEACOM has donated three oxygen concentrators worth Kshs. 300,000 to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, Langata in order to boost their medical equipment.

In addition, the telecommunications company, which was holding their annual Foundation Day event, sponsored the consultation fees for 1,000 patients, and provided new mothers with gift hampers.

“St. Mary’s plays a major role in healthcare for a substantial number of people. Its strategic location serves Kenyans in Lang’ata and surrounding areas like Kibera, Karen, Ongata Rongai and Nairobi West,” said SEACOM Managing Director for Kenya Joseph Muriithi.

“The oxygen concentrators that we are donating today will play a huge role in ensuring that the hospital continues to fulfill its mandate as a health provider and also enable their staff to provide quality health care to their patients,” he added.

SEACOM’s Foundation Day which is celebrated each year, sees the company’s staff located around Africa roll their sleeves up and volunteer their time to support causes and non-profit organisations that are close to their hearts.

While receiving the medical equipment, the Hospital’s Managing Director, Dr Bryann Nyangeri expressed delight with SEACOM’s gesture saying that the community stands to benefit immensely from the equipment.

“St. Mary’s Mission Hospital Nairobi is a center of healthcare ministry in service to low income earners, providing quality, affordable healthcare within a compassionate Christian environment. We fulfil our mission through our healthcare services, outreach programs in response to the surrounding communities’ needs, and our commitment to medical and clinico-pastoral education,” he said.

“One of the pillars of health systems strengthening is the availability of medical products. The equipment we have received today will help deal with the challenges that we have been experiencing especially when we receive patients who are in need of oxygen therapy,” he added.

Dr Wycliffe Kimani, a Consultant Pediatrician and the Deputy Doctor In Charge of St Mary’s Mission Hospital welcomed the donation saying “The concentrators will go a long way towards boosting our capacity to deal with cases of apnea of prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome and perinatal asphyxia.”

SEACOM staff participated in various activities including welcoming and ushering patients and also carried out a cleaning exercise within and around the Hospital.

In addition, the company planted a tree within the hospital’s precincts and shared a cake with both patients and staff.
