Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has trained the Mandera County Executive Committee Members, Directors and members of the County Public Service Board on integrity and ethics.

The two day workshop focused on sensitization of the CEC’s so as to equip them with the requisite competence to drive the integrity and anti-corruption agenda.

The Commission was represented by Mr. Kairichi Marimba, Head of Corporate Communications who delivered the speech on behalf the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Halakhe Waqo.

The CEO called on the County Executives and other officials of the County Government of Mandera to implement integrity laws and regulations and abide by them always.

In his speech, Mr Wago said, “Corruption and unethical conduct has been identified as the main obstacle to the realization of good governance, sustainable development and the Vision 2030. The words of Chinua Achebe are very clear on the effects of corruption in Africa, when he said without doubt, corruption has permeated the Africa society and anyone who can say that corruption has not become alarming is either a fool, a crook or else does not live in this continent.”

This training come in the wake of widespread corruption allegations across the counties in Kenya with county Governors being blamed for using public funds for their own benefit. Reports from the Auditor General also indicated that there was rampant corruption at the county level with no single Governor having been brought to book.

The commission itself has come under attack on its capability to fight corruption in the country. The case involving the former Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Anne Waiguru put the commission on the sportlight. At one time, Phillip Kinisu, who was the chair to the commission was linked to a company that was said to have been involved in the National Youth Service scandal where more than one billion shillings are said to have been lost. Mr Kinisu resigned from the position.
