When the Economy is Headed to the Dogs But Politicians Insist it is Okay

Our economy is on the right path! Our economy is moving towards the right direction! Our economy is growing in double digits! These are the irritating noises of our so-called politicians, shouting their lungs out trying to convince the poor dying Kenyan that Kenya is great and that the economy is vibrant.
According to our politicians, the two-month doctors’ strike is a sign of a growing economy. According to them, the dying of poor Kenyans who cannot afford to visit private health institutions because doctors in public hospitals are on strike is a sign of a vibrant economy.
According to our politicians, the ongoing strike of lecturers in all the public universities across the country is an indication that the economy is growing in double digits. According to them, we are on the right direction.
According to our politicians, with more than 1.4 million Kenyans at the brink of dying of starvation is a sign that our economy is stable. In fact, at the end of January, the number is likely to move from 1.4 million to 2 million. And what does the government say? It is not yet an emergency but just a manageable crisis.
The economy is doing fine. They insist of being defiant. In the world of corruption, we have not been left behind. How can we be left behind when that is the field that we have world record breakers? Actually, we are now ranked as the 4th Most Corrupt Nation among EAC nations and soon, we are moving towards the clinching of the gold. We are not yet there but we are moving there.
Now, let us summarize this subject this way; our economy is on the right path because the doctors’ strike is in its second month, the lecturers’ strike is in its second week, 1.4 million Kenyans are at the verge of dying of starvation, we are at position four on the scale of the most corrupt nation among EAC and voter registration is going on. We are on the right path. Right?
And by the way, do you know that the Jubilee administration goes down in history as the only government that has launched amazing incomplete projects? Oh yes. If you did not know, now you know. There is one mega project that I would like to bring to your attention; this is the Standard Gauge Railway. On this project, we are spending 600 billion shillings. Yes. You heard right. 600 billion shillings and the project is stinking. Do you know why? Because the feasibility study was done by the Chinese, the funding in form of a loan came from a Chinese bank, the contractor is a Chinese company, 90 percent of the labor force is from China and the most absurd thing is that the same Chinese will run the SGR for the next ten years!
What else can we say? The economy is on the right path. Right?
