Kenya is a mature democracy, says President Uhuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he will reach out to Raila Odinga, the opposition leader once the fresh Presidential election is over.

Speaking after casting his vote in Gatundu Uhuru said it is the responsibility of who is elected to foster unity among Kenyans regardless of their political inclination.

“All we’re asking is that Kenyans turn out. We are requesting them humbly that they should turn out in large numbers to cast their vote… choose their leader… for our country to move on. We are tired as a country of electioneering, It’s time to move forward,” said Uhuru.

The President said he would reach out to Raila who has boycotted the fresh Presidential election saying it is the minimum a responsible leader should do.

He described the election as monumental to the nation, saying the country’s leadership has proven that it is able to respect the independence of independent institutions particularly the Judiciary which nullified his victory in the August 8 presidential election.

“Kenya is proving that our democracy is improving and has indeed matured. Our institutions are maturing and I believe Kenya is setting an example other African countries should emulate,” said President Kenyatta who was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, his mother, former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta and a host of local leaders including Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
