Can 100 shillings make you own a brand new Toyota Belta? What comes to your mind when someone tells you that he or she ‘bought’ a brand new car using 100 shillings? Of course, you will be tempted to ask the person whether the ‘brand new car’ is a toy or you will even reach the conclusion that the person is nuts.

As odd as it may sound, this is exactly what happened to one Billy Oduor Opiyo, whose 100-shilling airtime on a Telkom Kenya line gave him a brand new Toyota Belta.

“I don’t remember how much I used but I remember the last amount I topped up was 100 shillings worth of airtime. That’s the card that changed my life,” he said with elation.

Mr. Oduor who is an electrician from Ugunja in Kisumu. He hailed Telkom Kenya in an exceptionally thrilled voice as he explained how happy he was. Believing that he might be the lucky winner of the next Toyota Belta (making it two) to be given out by the company, he continues to top up his Telkom line every day.

When we asked about how he was planning to use the new car, he said that he had contacted the relevant personnel after seeking advice on how he can use it for the airport taxis in Kisumu. He strongly believes that he would earn a substantial income from the business.

“I had lost hope in this promotional things. I had never thought that one day I will win. Over the years, I have been taking part in promotions by (Telkom’s Competitor) but I never won. I gave up, threw away my line and switched to Telkom and here I am, a car owner,” he said.

Telkom Kenya’s aim to change people’s lives is unstoppable with many subscribers subscribing to the network. The ongoing FormNi50 campaign, a top up and win promotion continues to inspire many across Kenya, with 50 Kenyans expected to walk away with 50 brand new cars, each being won on a daily basis from Monday to Friday.

And now, Telkom has made the promotion event better with those topping up their lines using T-kash getting double entries.

Well, then 100 shillings can make you a car owner. Ask Mr. Oduor if you are one of the doubting Thomases.
