Kenya Powers MD Fired Amid Investigations

Kenya Power’s Managing Director, Ken Tarus, has been fired by the board following recommendations of persecution.

This comes shortly after he surrendered himself at the Director of Criminal Investigation headquarters on Sunday evening and was held at the Muthaiga Police station.

Ken Tarus is among previous and current senior managers of the firm who are under investigation following corruption allegations involving more than 4.5 billion shillings.

Parliament had previously, in January 2018, summoned Ken Tarus after skipping two invitations to appear before it to respond to questions on procurement at Kenya Power.

The allegations had come after an internal audit report that revealed the rot in the taxpayers run company where 19 companies were accused of malpractice.

Kenya Power has assured its stakeholders and the public of uninterrupted service despite on-going investigations in the company.

More of the firm’s senior management staffs were summoned by the DCI following orders from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The board reassured shareholders, development partners and members of the public stating that it has in place a business continuity strategy hence all operations would continue uninterrupted.

The investigation is based on the supply of transformers, Labour and Transport contracts, issues that are currently under investigation.
