Why TSC Members Should Reap all the Benefits of Minet’s Healthy Approach to Quality Care

The importance of having an insurance cover cannot be emphasized enough, but given the current economic situation in Kenya, the majority of the people cannot afford such a medical cover. While some employers hardly care about the welfare of their workers, others like are at the forefront. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) medical cover under Minet is one good example.
Minet provides a medical insurance that provides you with the peace of mind necessary to pursue other interests. Sadly, most of the members still have no idea how to get the most out of their coverage to benefit them and their families. That said, how does this cover work?
Who is Eligible for Minet Medical Scheme?
To be eligible for the cover, you must be employed by the TSC. Teachers who are members of the TSC and are actively in service qualify to be covered under the Minet Teachers’ Medical Scheme as Principal Members.
Some dependants including one legal spouse of the principal member and four unmarried biological or legally adopted children of up to 18 years of age, or 25 if they are enrolled in a tertiary institution, also qualify for the cover. Notably, no age limit applies to child dependents with a disability.
The change of dependants is not permitted at least the end of the policy period unless death or divorce of a spouse occurs. But you can also make changes to the dependants and review your cover at the start of each policy.
What is the Registration Process?
Registering for the Minet Teachers Medical Scheme involves mobile phone registration using a USSD code and a biometric entry done at the hospital. To register, dial *865# using your Safaricom or Airtel service provider, and enter your TSC and National ID numbers.
After a successful verification, you will be prompted to enter your name, role, and gender. You will then get a text message confirming its success. Then another prompt for the registration of dependants will come up.
The same USSD is used to register dependants. Enter their Enter Date of Birth, full name, ID number or birth certificate number.
The Biometric Registration is carried out at the hospital. It involves identifying yourself or the dependant using your TSC number. The service providers can be accessed using*340#. The service provider will generate an SMS that contains the One-Time-Pin (OTP), sent to the principal member’s mobile number, which you will present to the service provider representative to begin the fingerprint registration.
How do I Access Medical Services?
The steps are simple.
- Dial *340#
- Select the first option to find a hospital
- Then the type of service you want
- Followed by the mode on how you wish to access the service
- Then the county you are accessing it from
- Select the sub-county
- And you will finally receive information regarding the nearest medical facility.
What are the Benefits of Minet Teachers Medical Scheme?
Minet medical cover for teachers has surprisingly good benefits, some of which are even better than what corporate clients or other individuals get. It covers some chronic diseases like epilepsy and cancer among others. A member doesn’t have to wait for 12 months as is the case with some other insurance agencies.
Minet cover also caters for treatments in instances where a member cannot receive health care locally. It caters for travel assistance, airfare, pick up from the airport, transfer to the hospital, travel assistance among others. If a client gets back to the country from abroad, they will be linked to a professional who will follow up on their health.
The cover caters for maternity cases, which consists of emergency cases, congenital conditions, elective caesarean sections, and pre-maturity expenses. This cover is exceptional as other insurance covers hardly cover elective c-sections, so this is a big win.
Other benefits include dental and optical services alongside wellness packages, psychiatric and counseling services as well as last expense and group life benefits. Members are also entitled to statutory benefits under the NHIF scheme as they still pay their statutory deductions.
The bottom line is that some teachers ought to know that this Minet medical cover is worth having. You can advise other TSC members to enroll and reap all its benefits.
