When Life Gets Stuck, Minet Medical Scheme is Here to Help

Let’s face it, a bunch of people out there put off buying insurance for several reasons. What they don’t know is, they could be inviting trouble into their lives and that of their family. Some of the reasons they give are lame and whereas others question the quibbles in the sector, the truth is, a medical cover is highly fundamental.

Accidents happen every day. No one is an exception. In severe cases, you could be left crippled, a thing which would sooner rather than later invite extreme poverty. Looking beyond the common reasons of why you shouldn’t get a cover will come in handy at this point.

Many think it is too expensive, that it is only for babies and old people, or shun it away because they don’t have kids. Worse still, many are convinced they are perfectly healthy and nothing could possibly go wrong. Well, Charles Macheso thought so, until Minet Teachers Medical Scheme changed his mind.

Charles Macheso is a teacher who is recovering from spinal injury. His health was impeccable until September 6, 1999, when he accidentally fell into a ditch and had a severe spinal injury.

Macheso was taken to one Bungoma General Hospital where the treatment efforts amounted to him staying in bed for two whole months. Luckily, during his stay at the hospital, another doctor directed him to Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret.

Through imaging and scans, it was found that one of his ribs had detached from his spinal code and was resting in the muscles. Through corrective surgery, he was made whole again.

According to Macheso, while in Mediheal Hospital, he heard about Minet Scheme for teachers through the media; newspapers, and radio, and he did an effort to become a member. After competition of all the necessary steps, Minet catered for all his hospital bills.

“Other people had already said I would end up a lame man but look at me, I can walk like a soldier!” Macheso says with a smile.

He says that his family wouldn’t have afforded the medical bills, especially if he had been airlifted abroad for further treatment. But thanks to Minet, everything he owed was paid for in full.

“If there is any teacher who has not joined or has not heard of Minet, let them try now because it even covers the family members,” he said.

His story is just one among many. It is a clear indication of how an insurance cover can help you in times of need. Like Macheso says, if you are a teacher and hasn’t registered for Minet, you have no idea what you are missing. It has all the benefits you are looking for, covers maternity as well as chronic diseases, vision problems, to name a few. It also provides cover for your family!

It is worth noting that if you are a member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), you automatically qualify to be a member of Minet.
