Your skin goes a long way in helping you feel beautiful and carry the natural aura of confidence. It boosts your self-esteem and your social life. This, however, is an issue when you are faced with hyperpigmentation. At the end of the day when you get rid of the concealers or creams used to hide the condition, the sad truth remains. Your skin doesn’t make you comfortable.

If you want to feel beautiful for the world and get rid of hyperpigmentation, this article is for you.

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation, simply known as pigmentation or melisma, is a condition that leaves parts of your skin with dark patches. These patches can be small or large.

Usually, this condition is no call for concern although in severe cases, they could be an indication of an underlying medical issue. It causes your skin to look dull and unhealthy.

Hyperpigmentation is caused by the overproduction of melanin, which gives the skin its color. When melanocytes, the cell that produces pigments, are damaged or unhealthy, they produce lots of melanin leading to darkening of some skin areas.

Other causes include:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Inappropriate hair removal
  • Hereditary factors
  • Allergic reactions
  • Overexposure to the sun

Hyperpigmentation Treatment

  1. Lemon Juice and Honey

Citric acid contained in lemon juice helps to bleach the skin while the honey conditions it. To create this natural treatment, mix equal amounts of honey and lemon juice, preferably glass, and stir them well.

Apply the mask to the affected area and cover with a warm towel for about 15 minutes, then use lukewarm water to rinse off. Repeat once a week until you realize positive changes.

This treatment isn’t ideal for those with sensitive skin.

  1. Aloe Vera and Vitamin E

Aloe vera contains polysaccharides that aid in the removal of dead cells in the skin while at the same time promoting the regeneration of new cells. On the other hand, vitamin E is an antioxidant that has skin mending properties.

Extract aloe vera gel from its leaves and apply to the affected parts before going to bed. You can leave it overnight, or if you apply during the day, you can wipe them off after half an hour.

After rinsing the gel off your skin, massage it with Vitamin E oil. Follow this remedy for a few weeks until the pigmentations disappear.

  1. Turmeric

Turmeric can prevent your skin from getting infections apart from reversing the symptoms of hyperpigmentation. If you’ve spent too much time in the sun, this treatment will work for you.

You need a teaspoon of turmeric powder, two tablespoons of flour, half a teaspoon of almond oil and water to make this treatment.

Mix the flour and turmeric powder in a bowl and add the gel and enough water to make a thick mask. Apply to the affected skin and allow it to sit for 20 minutes before rinsing off. Repeat once a day for the best results.

  1. Raw Potato

Raw potato has the ability to lighten pigmented skin as well as other blemishes and skin spots. To use this treatment, simply peel a potato and chop into thick slices. Add a few drops of water to the surface of the slice and rub it on the affected area for 5 to 10 minutes.

Then rinse off with warm water. Repeat the process several times a day for a month or until you realize changes.

  1. Cucumber

Cucumber rejuvenates the skin and improves the general complexion. It also treats blemishes and freckles.

Blend a cucumber in a juicer to make cucumber juice. You can apply the juice alone on the affected parts of your skin or mix with honey and lemon juice for better results. Leave the mixture for about 10 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Do this twice a day until the hyperpigmentation disappears.

Use either of these remedies to maintain proper skin care. Should it cause any type of irritation or allergy, see a doctor.
