Peninah Wangeci Kariuki struggles to move at the Karatina Sub-County Hospital after her 7-year husband and father of their three young children, Samuel Ndirangu, stabbed her seventeen times.

Peninah narrates of her troubled marriage where she says the husband has been constantly ‘terrorizing’ her and its during one such instance that has left her fighting for her life at the Karatina Subcounty Hospital.

In her 30’s, Peninah came to the verge of death, on Tuesday night, thanks to her violent husband, Ndirangu after a domestic disagreement. Ndirangu is accused of stabbing Peninah on the face, chest and back.

Peninah admitted that her marriage to Ndirangu was rocked with violence and recurrent death threats.

“He follows me from work to make sure I can’t leave him,” Peninah narrates adding that Ndirangu has promised to kill her and the three children.

“Last year, he attacked me with a machete and would have probably killed me were it not for the Landlady who heard my screams and saved me, he however burnt all of my clothes,” Peninah narrates.

“I wish he would be arrested because he is terrorizing my life and that of our children,” she adds saying she is afraid for her children and her life.

Peninah who schooled at Moi Equator girls in Nanyuki has been hailed by her classmates on social media as a great Christian Union (C.U) leader and they were surprised at the loss of her healthy bubbly nature.

Ndirangu has since turned himself in at the Karatina police station where he is being held as investigations continue.

Karatina hospital Medical Superintendent Benson Ngari says Peninah is stable and that though she bled a lot, the cuts were not too deep.

The case of Peninah comes at a time when Kenya seems to be struggling with rising cases of violence against women with the most recent case being that of a medical student, Ivy Wangeci, at the Moi Referral Hospital.

Ivy Wangeci was hacked to death in broad daylight by an alleged boyfriend Naftali Njahi Kinuthia.

The Government is yet to chip in on the matter that now been trending under various hashtags including #EndFemicide #StopKillingWomen #StopFemicide.
