Margaret Kilelu-AMREF Nurse Found in Mombasa ICU after Disappearing in Nairobi Dies

Margaret Kilelu Omollo, the Amref Nurse who disappeared from her home in Nairobi’s Tena Estate on February 21^st, 2019 only to be found in a coma in a Mombasa hospital has died.

Margaret died on Thursday morning at the Coast Provincial General Hospital where she spent weeks in the Intensive Care Unit as her family hoped for her recovery to unravel the mystery that led her to Mombasa from Nairobi.

Margaret was reported to have been undergoing depression treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital after she had difficulties coming into terms with her husband’s sudden demise. Margaret, according to her family, had improved and gone back to her job at AMREF where she worked as a nurse.

On the day she disappeared, Margaret was headed to work but never returned causing panic among her family and friends who went to social media to assist locate her. Margaret, according to her family, was dressed in a long grey dress and a black jacket when she walked out of her home in Tena estate only to be found dressed in a dera in Mombasa.

Margaret was reportedly rescued by a Good Samaritan near a petrol station in Bamburi who reported to the Kadzandani Police Station.

“According to information from the hospital, she was brought on Saturday morning by police officers. This after the Good Samaritan reported the matter to them,” Mr. Crispin Chombo, the nurse’s brother said.

The family remains lost on the circumstances that led Margaret from Nairobi in perfect health to Mombasa into unconsciousness. What could have caused her change of plans from going to her work at AMREF in Nairobi to Mombasa where they did not expect her to be?

“No one knows what happened, Maggy has died with the truth since she has not been able to wake up and explain what happened to her,” Lydia Opiyo, Margaret’s longtime friend said.

The late Margaret Kilelu had been windowed barely six months ago after the sudden demise of her husband, Doctor Stephen Omollo, who ran a Trichology health clinic that assisted people struggling with hair loss.

She has left behind two young children and a family that might never understand what led to the death of not only Margaret Kilelu but that of her husband as well whose death circumstances remain unclear 6 months on.
