KCSE Day 1: School Principal Dies in Road Accident on Way to Collect Exam Papers

An early morning road accident along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road has left one school principal dead while another one is in critical condition as KCSE kicks off.

The two school principals and a driver were headed to Naivasha town where they were to collect examination papers for the just started KCSE exams.

The vehicle the two principals were in rammed into the rear of a stalled lorry near Governor’s camp killing one of the principals who worked in a private school on the spot.

The driver of the car ferrying the two principals to pick the KCSE papers in Naivasha, together with the other principal, were seriously injured and are currently recuperating in Naivasha hospital.

Plans to supply the schools with the KCSE exam papers upon the demise of one principal and the hospitalization of the other are already underway according to Naivasha deputy commissioner Mathioya Mbogo.

‘Our officers have been dispatched to the ground to get finer details of those involved but we have already dispatched the exams papers,” Mbogo has said.

CS Magoha Sends Warning to Nyanza Parents Suspected of Wanting to Buy Exams

Meanwhile, parents in Nyanza region of Kenya have been warned of any plans to engage in cheating in KCSE exams by the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha on Monday.

Professor Magoha, spoke during the distribution of KCSE examination papers at the Kisumu East Deputy County Commissioner’s office, where he noted that he was aware that a section of parents in Homa Bay, Migori and Kisii counties had made contributions of 200,000 shillings to buy exams.

“There are people who have identified supervisors whom they plan to pay 120,000 shillings, 60,000 shillings and 40,000 shillings to invigilators and police officers respectively,” Magoha said.

Magoha urged candidates not to fall to any form of luring into the exam cheating as they would also face the consequences when caught.

“Am pleading with them because I know they are yet to sit for exams. Please do not get involved in it, otherwise you will not get your results,” the Education CS urged.

“Nobody should not say they were not warned”, Magoha reiterated.

KCSE Stats

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) which is set to start today, Monday 4th November 2019 will see a total of 699,745 candidates sit for the National Exams compared to 664,585 candidates in 2018.

The KCSE papers will be spread in 10,287 examination centres across the country.
