One person has been killed and 29 others injured in a road accident that occurred on Embu-Kirinyaga road on the morning of Thursday, 5th December.

Eyewitnesses say that the accident involving two matatus which collided head-on at Rupingazi bridge, left one victim dead on the spot as the 29 injured ones were rushed to Embu Referral Hospital for treatment.

While several injured accident victims, which include children were said to have suffered fractures and head injuries, three of them are reportedly in a coma at Embu referral Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to reports from residents and witnesses, one of the matatus that were headed to Nairobi from Meru had tried to overtake the one that was heading to Embu at the bridge which is said to be a blackspot.

Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo, while confirming that the accident claimed one life and 29 others were injured, appealed to drivers to observe traffic rules to avoid accidents such as that, especially ahead of this festive season.
