Bondo Teacher wins 3-Bedroom Apartment in Lipa Na M-PESA Promotion

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) has unveiled the fifth 3-bedroom apartment winner in the ongoing Lipa Na M-PESA promotion.

Edward Opiyo Oluoch, a Mathematics and Geography teacher at Nyamonye Girls Secondary School in Bondo becomes the fifth winner of a three-bedroom apartment located in Nairobi’s Riruta neighborhood.

The 39-year-old father of three joins Reuben Keitany, Samuel Gathiru, Salma Mohammed and Joseph Kipkurui who have so far won apartments in the promotion.

“This is the first time I have won in a promotion, and I am very delighted to be the owner of this three-bedroom apartment. I use Lipa Na M-PESA a lot to pay my bills and shop for my family,” said Edward Oluoch.

Edward has been teaching at Nyamonye Girls since 2011 and has over the years earned the confidence and trust from students, teachers and the non-teaching staff. Most parents often send him pocket money to give their children while at school. His wife Sheila Wekesa is also a teacher in the same school where she teaches History and Kiswahili.

Since the Lipa Na M-PESA promotion began on January 8^th, 2020, Safaricom has awarded four apartments to customers and 80 tuk-tuks to Lipa Na M-PESA merchants. Safaricom has also been awarding a surprise cashback to 8 customers every minute, one in each region, for paying with Lipa Na M-PESA. Merchants get 25 percent of the Lipa Na M-PESA transaction charges as a cashback every night.

“It has to be a phenomenal six weeks as we have celebrated and rewarded thousands of customers in the ongoing promotion. Lipa Na M-PESA has emerged as a popular service due to its speed, ease, and convenience, and it has been heartwarming hearing the different ways the service is making a difference for our customers,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chief Special Projects Officer, Safaricom.

The promotion continues until 5^th March 2020 and is open to both customers and businesses who make and receive payments through Lipa Na M-PESA. Customers and businesses will receive 1 entry for every KES 100 paid or received through the service.

Customers also stand to win the remaining three-bedroom apartment in weekly draws, while one customer in each of the 8 regions will win a tractor with a plow and trailer in the grand draw at the end of the promotion.

Businesses that accept Lipa Na M-PESA also stand to win 80 tuk-tuks, 10 each in the eight regions and in the grand draw, eight 12-tonne Fuso FI trucks, one in each region
