BY Juma · February 15, 2020 08:02 am

It is now official that the deadly Coronavirus has landed in the African continent after Egypt confirmed its first case.

According to the Health Ministry spokesperson Khaled Mugahed, the “affected person is a foreigner who did not show any serious signs.”

It is feared that Coronavirus might have landed in Africa many days ago but African governments might be scared of making it public for fear of panic among citizens.

Most African countries do not have the facilities and the capacity to manage and control the deadly Coronavirus once it hits their countries. Some do not even have labs and experts.

1,400 Dead, 65,000 Infected

Coronavirus originated in Central China and has since killed 1,400 people with 65,000 others Infected, and more than 20,000 in critical condition.

The most affected city in China is Wuhan and has been under complete lockdown for more than two months and Beijing struggles to fight the virus.

More than 1,390 of the deaths have occurred in China and this has been blamed on China’s attempt to deny and hide the truth about the virus.

The virus has so far been confirmed in 27 countries with Egypt being the first African country to publicly confirm the presence of the virus. Africa is now scared.

Is Kenya Ready?

The Ministry of Health, through Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki continues to insist that Kenya is ready for Coronavirus should it come knocking.

Ironically, however, the first three suspected cases were only cleared after samples were sent to South Africa. It is not clear whether Kenya has the experts who will handle the virus despite being the third to set up a laboratory in Africa.
