The numbers of Covid-19 confirmed cases in Kenya have now hit 582 following the confirmation of 47 new cases on Wednesday by the Ministry of Health.

Of the 47 new cases, 32 are from Mombasa, eleven from Nairobi, two from Busia, one from Kiambu, and another one from Kwale counties.

Today marks the highest number of registered cases since the announcement of the first confirmed case. On Tuesday, a total of 45 individuals tested positive of the deadly virus.

On the positive side, 8 more people have recovered and discharged from health facilities bringing the total number of those who have recovered to 190. The number of those who have succumbed as a result of the virus in Kenya is now 26 after two more fatalities on Wednesday.

The government now says that mass testing of Kenyans has been rolled out and that Kenyans should expect a spike in the number of confirmed cases in the coming days.

Calls To Lock Down Eastleigh and Old Town

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala is sponsoring a motion in the Senate to have Nairobi’s Eastleigh area put under total lockdown to cut down on the spread of Covid-19. Eastleigh area has registered the highest number of confirmed cases with the government blaming it on the businesses that are operating as usual within the area.

There are also calls on the government to use force or impose a lockdown in Mombasa especially in Old Town where locals are said to have refused to adhere to directives by the Ministry of Health. The residents of Old Town have also been accused of boycotting the free testing exercise by the government.
