28 more patients have tested positive for Covid-19 out of 841 samples bringing the total number to 700 cases in Kenya. The death toll has also risen to 33 after one more patient succumbed to the virus.

“In the last 24 hours, we have tested 841 samples, out of which 28 people tested positive for Coronavirus. This brings the total number of those who have tested positive to 700,” said Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman.

On the positive end,12 more people have been discharged after they tested negative which brings the total number of recoveries to 251. According to the Health CAS Rashid Aman, the cases have been distributed across different counties in the country with Mombasa county leading with 10 cases.

Kajiado comes in second with 9 cases, Nairobi five and the remaining two in Wajir County.

Concerns have been raised over the increased rate of positive cases at the border points where there is free movement of people in and out without thorough testing.

In Kajiado County, the testing has been thorough but all those who have tested positive are truck drivers from Tanzania. The nine had all traveled from Tanzania and were tested at the Namanga border.

CAS Aman admitted that the country is having a shortage of reagents which is affecting the number of tests being carried out in various labs. The low supply has been attributed to the high demands of the reagents globally.

He argued that the main priority is containing the community spread urging Kenyans to report any suspicious cases to the Ministry by calling or sending a message to 011071919.

Kenyans cautioned against using herbs

The Ministry of Health says that it has realized that Kenyans are increasingly using herbs to treat and prevent themselves against Covid-19. The Ministry says such actions are a danger to health since the herbs have not been tested and found to be effective.

“We have noted with concern that some Kenyans have resorted to using herbs to seek prevention or cure of Covid-19. We are cautioning you against the herbs since they have not been verified or approved,” said the Ministry of Health.
