“Waiguru Ran Down Kirinyaga’s Health Sector” Witnesses Told Senate

A selfish, self-centered, don’t-care Governor who lacks the necessary leadership skills was how the former Kirinyaga Health Executive Dr. Agnes Gachoki painted Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru Kamotho.

Testimonies were yesterday presented by the county’s former Health CEC Dr. Gachoki and the Kenya Practitioners’ Medical and Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary for the Central region Dr. Gor Goody.

“Leadership is something the Governor does not understand…it is different from dictatorship,” Dr. Gachoki said in opening her testimony against Governor Waiguru.

Dr. Gachoki painted Governor Waiguru, once famously known as minji minji as a hardcore corrupt dictator who had not only failed to contribute in building Kirinyaga County’s healthcare system but one who works to crumble any efforts to build the county.

“The Governor dictates what is going to be done and you must comply with the CECs simply there to do as directed,” Dr. Gachoki said accusing Waiguru of having shut down 20 dispensaries and firing 400 health workers creating chaos in the county.

Dr. Gachoki resigned from being Kirinyaga’s County CEC when she felt the governor had an “I don’t care” attitude towards the welfare of the County’s people.

“What broke the camel’s back is when we spoke with the Governor and Chief Officer Health to employ health workers because of natural attrition of staff and she did not act,” Dr. Gachoki said.

“The heavy workload that became as a result of the Governor firing 400 healthcare workers led to staff working without the required leave and as a consequence, a number of those that were expectant suffered miscarriages,” Doctor Gachoki told the Senate.

The Kirinyaga Governor Waiguru remained least bothered by the accusations facing her even indulging herself into a game of solitaire on her phone at some point as the proceedings carried on.

Upon being asked whether she had played any role in calling for Governor Waiguru’s impeachments, Dr. Gachoki said, “I am not a politician, I am here as a professional…a resident of Kirinyaga county”.
