President Uhuru Kenyatta has banned the sale of alcohol within the territories of the Republic of Kenya in the next 30 days.
With the President’s directive, there shall be no selling of alcohols in eateries or restaurants starting the midnight of Monday, July, 27, 2020.
At the same time, the Head of State has reduced the closing time for restaurants and eateries from 8 pm to 7 pm starting today (Monday, July 27, 2020).
The President has also directed the Inspector General of Police to withdraw all licenses of bars that will be found operating against his directive.
“The license for such bars, once withdrawn, will be permanent,” said the President as he addressed the nation on Monday.
The President Uhuru has also extended the current curfew for the next 30 days. The curfew will continue running from 9 pm to 4 am daily.
The Ministry of Health has been directed to retain retired ICU experts to help the Ministry across the counties in the event that cases will surge and overwhelm the existing manpower.
The President has also directed the Ministry of Health to convert any viable public facilities, as well as stadia into isolation facilities should the cases continue to rise.
“We should all take personal responsibility. The government cannot police the morals of Kenyans everywhere,” said the President.
Kenyans were eagerly waiting on the President’s speech. Some were holding their breathe after a rumour emerged that the President was going to impose another lockdown.
The President says the recklessness of a section of Kenyans is what is leading to the spiking of the cases saying the government will impose stricter measures should Kenyans continue to ignore the rules.
At the same time, the police have been directed to ensure that Kenyans adhere to set guidelines especially during funerals. The Ministry of Health requires only 15 people to attend a funeral.
