A form 3 student from Rwambiti High School was on Tuesday arrested for beating up his teachers after he was accosted for having a mobile phone in school.

According to Gichugu Sub-county Police commander Anthony Mbogo who confirmed the incident said that the student had refused to be searched before he began beating up teachers. The student had also tried to cause a riot in the school.

The student was found with a phone and when asked to give it up, he decided to hide it and started attacking the teacher. He started fighting with the teacher who wanted to frisk him, forcing two other teachers to intervene

The three teachers had a hard time restraining the student who had at the time broken a window in the classroom. Eventually, he was subdued and taken to the deputy principal’s office where police officers were hailed.

According to the report, the student confessed that he was under the influence of bhang after being interrogated by the police. The boy had also sustained injuries while suppressing his muscles in an attempt to make them grow bigger.

The 18-year-old student was re-siting the form three-class after he had failed in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE) according to the school’s deputy principal, Mr. David Munga.

“The Deputy principal talked with the parent who are civil servants, but they said they want the boy jailed because he is indisciplined,” Mbogo said

The police boss said the student will be charged with assaulting teachers, creating riots in the school, and destroying school property valued at 3000 shillings.

Education CS George Magoha early on had blamed parents over the increased student attacks on teachers terming them as ‘negligent’.

In January, a Form Four student was arrested after a female classmate was attacked with a panga at the Meneet area in Bomet. According to the area police boss Francis Kigeri, the suspect is in custody at Longisa Police Station as investigations continued

Magoha further called law enforcement agencies to take stern action to be taken on the perpetrators of identified cases as he asked teachers to take care of themselves.
