Tanzania Suspends Flights To And From India Over Covid-19

Who would have thought that there shall come a time for Tanzania to suspend flights to and from another country over a surge in Covid-19 infections? Tanzania is the only country in Africa that has lived under the denial of the existence of Covid-19.

But President Samia Suluhu Hassan who took over after the death of John Pombe Magufuli seems serious and aware of the Covid-19 pandemic that is sweeping around the world. In a surprise move, Air Tanzania has suspended flights to and from Mumbai.

“Air Tanzania will waive all penalties on reservation charges, re-issues, and refunds to affected passengers,” the airline said as it apologized for inconveniences caused,” said the airline in a statement to Tanzanians.

Citing concerns about new variants of the disease, the government of Tanzania said travelers entering the East African country will henceforth be required to show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken in the prior 72 hours to arrival.
