KNEC Releases New Guidelines And Calendar For KCSE And KCPE

The Kenya National Examination Centre (KNEC) has given directives for the 2021 KCPE and KCSE exams, which will take place in March 2022.

KNEC is rushing against time by ensuring it administers exams in the same year before learning institutions go back to the normal school calendar in 2023. The 2022 KCPE, KCSE exams are scheduled for November 2022, nine months after the 2021 exams are conducted.

Examiners are underway with setting exams, and KNEC is currently focused on preparing candidates for the exams.

In a circular issued to schools that will have candidates towards the end of July 2021 (currently Class 7 and Form 3 students), KNEC instructed headteachers to register them on its portal.

“School heads around the country should register class 7 and form 3 candidates where they have been learning. The candidates’ registration process shouldn’t take place in more than one examination center,” stated KNEC CEO Mercy Karogo.

She also noted KNEC would not allow late registration of candidates to take place. KNEC will allow private candidates to sit for their examinations in one center per sub-county.

Sub-County Directors of Education were directed to register private candidates. The directors will access and download the private candidates’ registration forms from the KNEC portal, ensure it is appropriately filled and forward it to sub-county education offices.

Karogo further directed that schools that have between 5 and 14 candidates will be hosted by another exam center

Candidates with foreign qualifications and those with Certificate of Primary Exams (CPE) will, on the other hand, must sit for a qualifying test before registering for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.

In February, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had asked teachers to apply to schools as examiners, supervisors, invigilators, and center managers. Security personnel also applied. All of them will help in the administration of the KCPE and KCSE examinations.

In the circular, KNEC insisted headteachers ensure they register candidates’ names in the order they appear on birth certificates.

“Ensure that you accurately record candidates’ order of names as provided in birth certificates, year of birth, gender, subjects entered, and other special needs,” the circular to school heads read

All examiners should access the KNEC Contracted Professionals Website using the link https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke. They need to log in to the portal and then complete their personal information and save it.
