President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to tour the Lower Eastern Counties of Makueni, Machakos, and Kitui for inspection of various development projects.

Leaders from Ukambani have lined up a list of demands they expect President Uhuru Kenyatta to dish out when he tours the region from tomorrow.

The president is expected to tour the Lower Eastern Counties of Makueni, Machakos, and Kitui for inspection of various development projects.

Leaders from the region led by Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), Kalonzo Musyoka, governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau, and senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior of Makueni and Enock Wambua of Kitui, on Friday held a meeting with the top state officials at Harambee House and agreed on development proposals in line with the 2021/2022 National budget.

During his address at St. Judes Church yesterday, Kalonzo urged the residents from the region to turn out in large numbers to welcome the president.

“Aje aimarishe Konza City. Now we have a chance to pump water from Thwake dam to this new city,” said Kalonzo.

Among the developmental projects proposed by Kalonzo include the establishment of Makueni University and the acceleration of the Emali-Ukia -Wote road.

President Uhuru will inspect the progress of Konza city in Machakos county and oversee the launch of the construction of the Yatta and Miwongoni dams before proceeding to Makueni.

The local leaders are campaigning for the cleansing of the Nairobi River which feeds the river Athi so that it does not become a den of pollution. Cleaning River Athi will help Thwake dam to serve the city with clean water since it will no longer be a damp site.

“Let the government implement the parliamentary report on cleaning river Athi,” former MP  for yatta Francis Mwangangi said.

According to Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, a budget of 3.6 trillion shillings is not small and the region is expecting a fair share from the same to implement development projects that will bring significant and positive changes in the region.

The president will tour Machakos and Makueni tomorrow and thereafter spend the entire Wednesday in Kitui according to governor Mutua.

Governor Mutua has, however, given a stern warning to lazy politicians in the region not to take this opportunity to just walk around with President Uhuru during the tour adding that it’s a privilege and they only expect to yield good results from the presidential tour.

The high and positive expectations are not only from the leaders but also the residents who are looking forward to this great tour that might change their lives in one way or the other.

The leaders are still negotiating for one more day to make it a three-day tour instead of the planned two days.
