KEY TAKEAWAYS

The owner of the lorry has been granted 14 days to show cause why the lorry should not be forfeited to the state.

Two men have been sentenced to 50 years behind bars and a fine of 63 million shillings slapped on them by a Wajir court, for trafficking drugs worth 21 million shillings.

In a ruling delivered by Senior resident magistrate Mugendi Nyagah, the accused Mohammed Oloo and Abraham Hassan were handed the heavy sentence after they were arrested by detectives ferrying a consignment of bhang.

On April, 4,2021, the two were intercepted at Athibool in Wajir county, ferrying 700kgs of the illegal drug to Nairobi. The lorry ferrying the consignment had been divided into compartments at the top, where the drug disguised as bags of cement was carefully concealed.

The second accused person Abraham Hassan who absconded the court session was sentenced in absentia and his Sh1 million bond was forfeited to the State. Consequently, a warrant for his arrest was issued and detectives have launched a manhunt for him.

Meanwhile, the owner of the lorry has been granted 14 days to show cause why the lorry should not be forfeited to the state. The two drug traffickers look very simple and innocent. You will not believe that they can be involved in such outlawed business.

Someone who is bold enough to get involved in trafficking Cannabis Sativa worth 21 million is not an amateur in the corridors of crime. Knowing dire consequences in case impounded, these guys must be high-risk takers. However, the law caught up with them and they will have to serve a whopping 50-year jail term sentence.

Drug trafficking is really a dangerous mission to even think of. Someone may use you to smuggle drugs into and out of the country, but once you are caught, they will not come to your rescue. Be advised to look for safer sources of livelihood. Drug trafficking is not worth your life. Don’t even go there.
