Total Equity Turnover Edged Down 3.94% To Close At USD 4.60 Million

The Kenyan shilling has continued with its weakening trend against major global currencies, hitting the lowest in history on Monday. Against the US Dollar, the local currency weakened 0.01 percent to close at 113.84 (-0.61 percent year-to-date).

Despite the loss against the dollar, the shilling managed to gain ground against the Pound by strengthening 0.14 percent to close at 152.68 (-0.41 percent year-to-date). Against the Euro, it strengthened 0.09 percent to close at 127.65 (+0.27 percent year-to-date).

Total equity turnover edged down 3.94 percent to close at USD 4.60 million (523.65 million shillings) compared to Friday’s turnover of USD 4.79 million (545.12 million shillings).

NSE 20 and NASI gained 0.18 and 0.14 percent to close at 1,886.75 and 160.25, respectively. Foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 59.78% of total market purchases and 53.32% of total market sales.

At the same time, weekly bond turnover advanced 217.4 percent w-o-w to close at USD 197.91 MN (KES 22.53 BN). FTSE Bond Index remained relatively flat w-o-w to close at 96.54.

91-day t-bill yield remained fairly flat to close at 7.254 percent, 182-day t-bill yield shed 1 bp to close at 8.062% while the 364-day t-bill yield gained  4 bps to close at 9.764 percent.
