TSC Announces Mass Recruitment Of Teachers, How To Apply
KEY TAKEAWAYS
TSC requires at least 10 billion shillings to finance critical programs, which include recruitment and promotion of teachers.
The country has been progressively doing its best to ensure that learners get the best out of the education system that has slowly shifted from 8.4.4 to the Competency-Based Curriculum.
In an attempt to deal with the shortage of teachers in the country for the full implementation of the competency-based curriculum, TSC has announced mass recruitment of teachers, relaxed qualifications.
Speaking in Mombasa, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia explained that the government gave the greenlight of the enrollment process following the mass exodus of non-local teachers from the region.
Macharia added that the teacher’s employer will be working with locals and leaders to sign up and train teachers from the region. However, she clarified that hiring was open to professionals from all regions.
“It is true, non-local staff does not prefer working in North Eastern due to security-related issues. We are, therefore, working with area leaders to sign up teachers originating in the region as well as in other regions,” she noted
The TSC boss encouraged teachers from across the country to apply for the job opportunities. through the office of the commission’s county directors. She further waived qualifications, allowing retirees to sign up.
According to TSC, it requires at least 10 billion shillings to finance critical programs, which include recruitment and promotion of teachers.
In a presentation to the National Assembly Committee, on Education consideration, of the budget statement policy 2022, Nancy Macharia said the Commission requires some 5.3 billion shillings to recruit 8,000 teachers for the 100 percent transition.
According to Nancy Macharia, the money is part of the critical areas which were not funded in the last budget.
She also told it will require 1.2 billion shillings to recruit 6,000 interns and another 2 billion shillings for the promotion of teachers on competitive selection. For the implementation of teachers’ performance appraisals, development, and performance contract, the TSC boss said the agency is seeking 10 billion shillings.
The new curriculum and the old, which are still in practice until a certain period in the future, have faced some hurdles in the full potential being realized by the TSC.
According to TSC, teachers in Grade B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 will not get a pay rise because they are not eligible when it comes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA 2017-2021 terms.
The Commission says that teachers have reached their maximum salary points popularly known as “bar” and therefore it will not be possible for their salaries to progress upwards.
“Grade B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 have reached the maximum salary points provided for in the banding by the completion of the cycle for CBA 2017-2021” reads the document.
According to TSC, grades C4, C5, D1 D2, D3, and D4 have not yet attained the maximum salary points provided for in the salary banding. The commission said that it will extend the salary points for these grades starting 1st July 2022.
