KEY TAKEAWAYS

Many Kenyan small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are eyeing a piece of 100 million investment opportunities in the ongoing SMELink Conference.

Starting a business in Kenya is not an easy walk in the park. Many entrepreneurs begin the venture with a lot of energy and vigor but only a few of them thrive.

This can be attributed to the many myriad challenges such as lack of capital and entrepreneurial skills, and high taxes imposed on the businesses, that continue to face the Kenyan SME sector.

Many entrepreneurs around the globe, especially in African countries, lack skills like accounting and marketing that are necessary for a business to succeed. As a result, they operate through trial and error, which has not worked to their advantage.

Another big challenge facing entrepreneurs is minimal innovation. Businesses fail to come up with new products, services, and ways of doing business.

This means the sector is stagnant because it’s only businesses that are innovative that will have the ability to grow and expand faster.

The reality is that a business that has poor or lacks innovative business ideas will soon lose its customers and will not be able to attract new ones.

Because the SME sector is very important for the economy, the country must seek solutions by engaging the entrepreneurs in proper training through workshops, trade fairs, and conferences to enable the continued growth of the sector.

For this reason, SMELink International, a company that builds strategic partnerships for SMEs in different markets, has planned a three-day conference in Nairobi, Kenya to connect 50 million SMEs to Money, Markets, and Mentors by 2027.

The initiative dubbed ‘Rhino’s Den’, which started on 20th April and will end on 22nd April 2022, is set to foster the creation of decent and sustainable jobs and the reduction of poverty.
