TSC To Employ More 5000 Teachers Before Reopening Of Schools, How To Apply

To reduce the country’s critical teacher shortage, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has requested the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to hire 5000 more teachers ahead of the new academic year, which begins later this month.

According to KUPPET SG Akello Misori, the new academic year, which will be compressed, would be more difficult, lest TSC employs additional teachers to provide for the two new transitional tests, the KSCE and the CBC.

Secretary-General Misori has also asked parents to be content with the Secondary Schools to which their children will be admitted, citing the country’s limited number of openings in national schools, in response to the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.

TSC requires at least 10 billion shillings to finance critical programs, which include the recruitment and promotion of teachers. Nancy Macharia said the Commission requires some 5.3 billion shillings to recruit 8,000 teachers for the 100 percent transition.

  • To create an account, the teachers will need to update their academic qualifications complete with Primary and Secondary School certificates as well as those from the Tertiary level.

  • The tutors are also expected to have a valid TSC number and must be citizens of Kenya.
