Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha on Monday, August 22, launched the upgraded version of the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) that will allow parents to monitor their children’s performance remotely in the comfort of their living room or office
According to Magoha, parents will now initiate a transfer of their children from one school to another through online once NEMIS becomes operational. The system has been revamped to accommodate parents, teachers, and school directors.
Now, NEMIS has different functions ranging from school transfer, children’s performance, and management of school infrastructures. Further, the application for bursaries and scholarships will henceforth be made on the website.
Prof Magoha said some of the loopholes that also saw untrustworthy officials and school heads steal money from the government have been sealed. He was speaking when he launched the re-engineered NEMIS at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD.
The unveiling came against the backdrop of the ongoing rollout of the Competence Based-Curriculum (CBC) that has taken shape with Grade 6 pupils set for their final exams at the end of 2022. The national test will pave way for the learners to join Junior Secondary School.
“The system introduces lots of benefits to our users including but not limited to, the onboarding of new and improved processes from different directorates for instance learner transfers, school registration
According to Prof Magoha, the system also looks to refine already existing system processes such as capitation management processes. With its upgraded server infrastructure and improved system architecture, the system serves to strengthen the user experience
