Students To Break For Half-term Break This Week

According to the Ministry of Education, students will start their half-term break on Wednesday 15th of this week. The Ministry of Education revised the 2023 school term dates which also altered the half-term break.

Initially, the half break was to start from 23rd March to 26th March 2023. However, this changed when a fresh circular with new term dates was released. In a circular dated 10th January by Principal Secretary, Belio Kipsang, the midterm break will now start from 16th March till 19th March 2023 when it will end.

However, many schools will break earlier with most high schools and private primary schools starting the break on Wednesday.

According to the new notice signed by Belio Kipsang on January 10, the opening dates for the 2023 first term remained unchanged with the first term beginning January 23, and running up to April 21.

Education Ministry altered the previously set mid-term break dates from March 23 to March 16. The break will run for a period of three days which will see learners resume on March 19.

Initially, the learners were to break on March 23 and resume on March 26. The circular was copied to Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, TSC Secretary Nancy Macharia, and KNEC CEO David Njengere.

All primary and secondary schools in the country will proceed for their first holiday on April 21 2022 after the end of the first term.

The Ministry further adjusted third term dates with the new calendar showing that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education- KCPE and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment examinations are scheduled to kick off on October 30, as opposed to the earlier communicated date of November 6.

The two assessments will run concurrently for four days before ending on November 2. Term three, according to the Ministry, will start on August 28 to run for nine consecutive weeks without a mid-term break.
