The TSC will register bachelor’s degree programs in the arts or sciences that have a PGDE in two teaching disciplines. For numerous graduates of these courses who had hoped to be registered and hired by the Teachers Service Commission, this communication has been a pain in the neck.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) banned over 20 Bachelor of Science and Arts Degree Teaching Courses. Graduates who undertook training in the courses and were hoping to be registered by TSC will now have to look for employment opportunities elsewhere.
“Applicants for registration whose training is in subjects that are currently NOT in the curriculum do not qualify irrespective of having undertaken a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and/or Enhancement” read part of the guidelines for registration of new teachers.
“Those who have undertaken a PGDE with these courses are NOT eligible for registration as teachers. These courses do not provide sufficient subject content and therefore the mastery of the content in two teaching subjects is not adequate as required,” reads the guidelines.

However, the commission explains that those with a bachelor of Science or Arts Degree, a post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), and 2 teaching subjects are qualified for registration.
According to TSC, these courses don’t cover the necessary amount of material. As a result, there is not enough subject mastery in the two learning areas.
