21 People Have Lost Their Lives In The Past 24 Hours In A Road Accident

On Friday 8th, at least nine people were killed in a road accident after a 14-seater matatu collided with a truck along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Salama, Makueni County. The Matatu was traveling from Loitoktok to Nairobi and collided with a truck heading to Mombasa at the Mlima Kiu area in Makueni.
Confirming the 11 p.m. accident on the 8th, Makueni Police Commander Barbanas Ng’eno said the nine passengers died on the spot following the head-on collision. Ng’eno confirmed the incident and said that investigations were launched to determine the cause of the accident. Further, the wreckage of the vehicles was towed to Salama Police Station.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to Kilungu Hospital while the wreckage of the vehicles was towed to Salama Police Station as investigations into the incident continued.
This now brings to 21 the total number of people who have died following road accidents on the Nairobi Mombasa Highway within the last 24 hours.
On Thursday 7th, at least twelve people lost their lives in a road accident involving a passenger shuttle and a trailer in Voi along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. The accident that occurred at Ndii involved a Genesis Shuttle that was traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa.

Confirming the incident, Voi sub-county police commander Benastine Shari said the 13 died on the spot, while four others were critically injured.
“The driver of Matatu was speeding. The accident happened as he tried to overtake another vehicle. The matatu collided head-on with an oncoming truck belonging to Alberam Transporters,” said Shari, adding: “Those who died were all passengers in the Nissan matatu.”
As a result of the collision, four passengers were rescued from the chaos and promptly transported to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi.
“Responding to a grisly road accident in Ndii, Voi County, involving a head-on collision between a Matatu and a lorry,” read part of a statement issued by Emergency Medical Services.
“We are working alongside the Kenya Police and well-wishers, we are swiftly evacuating the critically injured to the hospital,” the statement further read.
