Scripting Success: The Seven Biblical Stepping Stones To Effective Work

BY Steve Biko Wafula · January 25, 2024 03:01 pm

KEY POINTS

Self-control is the ability to regulate one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in the face of impulses and desires. It is the strength to stay focused on the goal, even when faced with internal conflicts.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

A plan is the starting point of all achievement, acting as a blueprint for success. It is the organized outline of steps necessary to move from where you are to where you want to be. A plan provides direction and purpose, helping to navigate through the chaos of life's many options.

In a world brimming with distractions and procrastination, achieving our goals can often seem like an uphill battle. However, the path to productivity is illuminated by seven foundational pillars, each rooted in ancient wisdom and reflected in the Bible’s timeless teachings.

As a practicing Christian and entrepreneur, the path of integrity is not only hard but an uphill task for an entrepreneur in Kenya and this is why I would like to delve into these pillars and understand how they interconnect to form a robust framework for getting things done as an entrepreneur, without compromising yourself.

A Plan: Crafting Your Blueprint for Success

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” – Proverbs 21:5

A plan is the starting point of all achievement, acting as a blueprint for success. It is the organized outline of steps necessary to move from where you are to where you want to be. A plan provides direction and purpose, helping to navigate through the chaos of life’s many options.

A Deadline: The Power of a Time Constraint

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?” – Luke 14:28.

A deadline instills a sense of urgency and importance. It serves as a temporal goalpost, marking the time by which the plan must come to fruition. Deadlines compel action and prevent the endless postponement of tasks.

Self-Discipline: The Path of the Discerning

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” – Hebrews 12:11

Self-discipline is the force that drives us to follow through with our plans despite the temptations and distractions that may come our way. It is about foregoing immediate gratification for the sake of long-term success.

Self-Control: Mastery Over Oneself

“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” – Proverbs 16:32

Self-control is the ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in the face of impulses and desires. It is the strength to stay focused on the goal, even when faced with internal conflicts.

Focusing: The Art of Concentration

“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!'” – Luke 10:40-42

Focusing is about prioritizing and giving undivided attention to the task at hand. Like Mary in this passage, it’s about choosing what is better and giving it your all.

Systems: Establishing Order and Routine

“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” – 1 Corinthians 14:33

Systems refer to the established procedures or routines that increase efficiency and effectiveness. They are the daily habits that inexorably lead to the achievement of goals.

Taking Action: The First Step of the Journey

“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” – James 2:17

Taking action is the actual step of moving forward with the plans laid out, with discipline, control, and focus, within the systems developed. It is the embodiment of faith through work.

In the biblical context, these seven pillars are not merely practical steps but are spiritual principles that reflect a life lived with intention and purpose.
