The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) directed motor vehicle owners to collect their processed logbooks and digital number plates.

According to the statement released by NTSA, they revealed that thousands of number plates and logbooks have remained uncollected across various nationwide in their offices. NTSA also said that most of the processed documents belonged to applicants from motor vehicle companies, dealers, and financial institutions.

“The Authority directs motor vehicle owners, companies, dealers and financial institutions to collect reflective number plates and logbooks,” read part of the statement by NTSA.

NTSA is asking all Kenyans seeking to collect their documents to visit the respective centers identified during the application process. However, NTSA claims that the delays were a result of a shortage in the number plates across the country.

According to NTSA, the number of currently uncollected plates is 102,000. The Authority revealed that it had reduced the number of days taken to process number plates and log books.

NTSA said that the number plate applicants would now receive their documents within seven working days while those seeking log books would receive them within three working days.

“Collecting number plates and logbooks not only fulfills a legal requirement but also promotes road safety and accountability,” the authority added.

Requirements

  1. Those seeking to collect number plates were urged to carry their old number plates and identification documents.
  2. Those seeking to access their logbook were asked to present their previous logbook and identification documents.

In August, NTSA announced an update to its portal to ease the collection of number plates and driving licenses. The Authority revealed that Kenyans seeking to search for their uncollected driving licenses would only require their Identity Card to do so.

Access to the Authority’s portal did not require any registration as compared to previous situations, noting the process was free. Similarly, Kenyans seeking to search for their reflective number plates were directed to use the registration number of their vehicles or motorcycles.
