Kenya Might See 60,000 New HIV Infections By 2030 After USAID Vamoosed

BY Steve Biko Wafula · February 19, 2025 04:02 am

The Kenyan government has once again proven that its priorities are not just misplaced—they are actively designed to ensure suffering. As the Health Ministry warns that cuts to HIV programs could lead to 60,000 new infections by 2030, the government is busy funneling billions into projects that serve no one but the elite.

There’s “no money” to save lives, but there’s KSh 12 billion to campaign for a meaningless AU Commission seat. There’s “no money” to ensure antiretroviral drugs reach every Kenyan in need, but there’s KSh 200 million for every unnecessary launch event where the same projects are launched five times, complete with oversized checks and empty speeches. There’s “no money” to replace the USAID funding gap, but there’s KSh 100 billion to renovate the State House and lodges so that the powerful can sleep in more comfortable corruption.

This is not governance; it’s a funeral procession for the future of Kenyans. While developed nations invest in healthcare, Kenya invests in photo-ops. While serious governments prioritize public welfare, ours prioritizes lavish banquets where speeches are more expensive than the solutions they pretend to discuss.

And when the HIV infections rise, when more Kenyans die, the same leaders will hold yet another press conference to “express concern” and blame everyone but themselves. The irony? They will likely do it in a newly renovated lodge, sitting on gold-trimmed chairs, sipping imported water, and shaking their heads at how unfortunate it is that Kenyans are suffering.

This is not just incompetence—it is calculated, deliberate cruelty. Kenyans are not dying because the government lacks money. Kenyans are dying because the government lacks humanity.
