KUCCPS Opens One-Week Application Window for KCSE Candidates, How To Apply

BY Getrude Mathayo · April 24, 2025 11:04 am

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened a seven-day application window for candidates interested in joining tertiary institutions across the country.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, April 23, KUCCPS placement service announced that the window would remain open for one week, closing on Tuesday, April 30. This application period targets candidates seeking placement in either a university degree program or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses.

According to KUCCPS, this round of applications is especially significant for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort. These recent high school graduates are eligible to apply for degree programs offered in various accredited public and private universities.

The agency emphasized that only candidates who scored a minimum mean grade of C+ in the 2024 KCSE examination are eligible for consideration in university degree courses.

However, the application exercise is not limited to recent candidates alone. KUCCPS clarified that students who sat their KCSE exams any time between the years 2000 and 2024 are eligible to apply for TVET programs.

These include diplomas, certificates, and artisan-level courses offered across government-approved technical institutions. Additionally, this group of applicants may also apply to Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), which exclusively offer courses related to teaching and education.

“Applicants are urged not to wait until the last minute. Yesterday was the best time to apply; today is the second-best time. Submit your applications now,” KUCCPS urged in its latest communication, reminding candidates of the limited time available.

The agency warned that the portal will be closed promptly on April 30, after which no further applications will be entertained. This means that candidates who fail to apply within the window will miss out on placement opportunities for the upcoming academic intake.

KUCCPS has raised concerns over the slow pace of applications, particularly among candidates who qualified for university admission. During a press briefing held on Thursday, April 17, John Oluoch, the Director for Placement and Career Development at KUCCPS, revealed that only a fraction of eligible students had applied by mid-April.

“Out of the 246,000 students who attained a C+ grade and above in the 2024 KCSE exams, only 104,000 had submitted their applications by last week. This means more than 100,000 qualified candidates have yet to apply,” Oluoch reported.

He expressed concern that many students risk missing out on university placements simply due to delays in submitting their applications. We are nearly getting to half of the total number of students. We are urging those who have not yet applied to do so immediately. The last-minute rush could lead to technical difficulties accessing the portal,” he cautioned.

KUCCPS has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent placement process but emphasized the importance of compliance with deadlines. With only a few days left before the portal closes, the agency is urging all eligible students, whether aiming for university degrees, TVET programs, or TTCs, to act quickly and secure their future through timely application.

Applicants can access the KUCCPS portal through www.kuccps.ac.ke to complete and submit their applications.
