The Following Region To Experience Heavy Rainfall And Thunderstorms Over The Next Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a comprehensive weather update for the week starting Tuesday, May 20, to Monday, May 26, forecasting a mixed bag of weather conditions across various parts of the country.
According to the announcement issued on Monday, May 19, several regions are expected to continue receiving rainfall, while others will experience relatively dry and sunny conditions punctuated by occasional showers.
The weather outlook points to persistent rains across a broad swath of the country, particularly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and parts of Northwestern Kenya.
These areas will see varying intensities of rain throughout the forecast period, with some places experiencing intermittent showers and others receiving more sustained precipitation.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which include counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and the capital city Nairobi, residents should brace for cool and cloudy mornings. These conditions will often give way to sunny intervals later in the day.

However, the afternoons are expected to bring localized showers, frequently accompanied by thunderstorms. Some areas will also experience light rains at night.
For counties located in the south-eastern lowlands, namely Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta, daytime conditions are expected to be predominantly sunny with intermittent clouds. The nights will remain partly cloudy.
Despite the largely dry forecast, the weatherman cautions that isolated showers may occur in the afternoon and nighttime hours, particularly over the next three days. These brief episodes of rainfall are likely to be sporadic and affect only limited areas.
Coastal regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, along with the coastal parts of Tana River County, will continue to experience light rainfall during the mornings and afternoons.
The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts that these areas will have showers interspersed with sunny intervals. Nights along the coast will generally remain partly cloudy, offering some respite from the high humidity typically experienced in these zones.
Counties located in the western part of the country and the Rift Valley, including Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok, will enjoy sunny mornings for the most part. Nonetheless, meteorologists warn of afternoon showers, which are likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms. Showers are also anticipated during the night in scattered areas across this vast region.
These rains, particularly in the Rift Valley and Western regions, are critical for supporting agricultural activities but may also lead to localized flooding, especially in flood-prone zones. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
In the northern and northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the weather will generally remain dry, characterized by sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy skies at night. However, a few areas might experience isolated showers during the afternoons and nights, especially towards the middle of the week.
Turkana and Samburu counties are forecast to experience less stable conditions compared to their northern counterparts. The Kenya Meteorological Department indicates that residents should expect morning rains as well as occasional afternoon showers. At night, some areas may be hit by thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall.
The weatherman has also provided a temperature forecast for the week, noting that daytime maximum temperatures are projected to rise across most regions. However, this warming trend will not be felt in Kisumu, Machakos, and Narok, where daytime temperatures are expected to remain stable or decrease slightly.
Conversely, night-time temperatures will generally decrease throughout the country, with the notable exception of Lodwar, Wajir, and Kisumu, where residents can expect warmer nights compared to previous weeks.
