Safaricom Creates Five New Millionaires Courtesy Of Shangwe At 25

Safaricom’s ongoing consumer promotion, Shangwe @25, has unveiled five new millionaires, bringing the total number of Ksh 1 million winners to 10 barely a month after the campaign began. The latest winners—Hannah Ngige (Nairobi), Wellington Juma (Kisumu), Taala Chelanga (Elgeyo Marakwet), Elizabeth Wairimu (Thika), and Sheila Cheptoo (Bomet)—also received an additional Ksh 250,000 each to support a community project of their choice.
In Nairobi, 56-year-old second-hand clothes trader Hannah Ngige plans to invest in her Komarock business and finally venture into tomato farming, while her community fund will go toward providing beddings for the maternity wing at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. Kisumu-based Clinical Officer Wellington Juma, 39, will channel his winnings into completing his home and equipping his clinic, and will support a widows’ group in Ahero through his community allocation.
In Bomet, 25-year-old poultry farmer Sheila Cheptoo intends to expand her agribusiness and help pay school fees for her siblings. Her selected community beneficiary, Kitoben Primary Children’s Home, will receive food and bedding. Thika shopkeeper Elizabeth Wairimu will use her winnings to expand her kiosk and donate textbooks to Twiga Primary School in Juja, while Elgeyo Marakwet’s Taala Chelanga plans to buy land and build a family home.
The promotion is also uplifting small and medium enterprises across the country. Eight SMEs using Lipa Na M-PESA—through Buy Goods and Pochi la Biashara—emerged among the latest beneficiaries. Four businesses, including Nairobi’s Sakifarm Limited and Millys The Redbeet Fresh Mart in Voi, won brand-new Bajaj tricycles to boost their logistics and deliveries. Another four, among them EBEE Mobility Kenya Limited in Homabay and Justus Kiprono Koros Hardware in Kericho, received business stock worth Ksh 250,000 each.
In addition, three large and medium-sized enterprises—Moringa School, the European Union, and the United Nations Federal Credit Union—each received Ksh 500,000 to support their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Since its rollout, Shangwe @25 has been awarding thousands of customers with daily and weekly prizes ranging from cash and devices to data bundles and business support tools. Over 50,000 winners emerge every week, with the total prize pool standing at Ksh 250 million.
Participation is open to customers transacting on M-PESA—whether sending money, paying via M-PESA, redeeming Bonga Points, or purchasing Safaricom products such as bundles and Home Fibre. Merchants and M-PESA agents are also eligible to win.
