LG Partners With Safaricom’s Green Box Experience to Reward Home Fibre Customers with Smart Appliances

LG East Africa and Opalnet have announced a partnership in Safaricom’s Green Box Experience, a customer reward campaign that will see at least 36 winners bag LG’s smart home appliances and equipment. This is part of the celebrations to mark Safaricom’s 25 years in business, including 11 of delivering its Home Fibre network around Kenya, providing the platform for the successful introduction of smart home electronics and appliances like those from LG.
Safaricom was first launched in Kenya in October 2000 and its Home Fibre product entered the market in 2014, reaching over 678,000 homes, businesses and other institutions, with speeds of up to 1,00mbps while commanding 36.4% of the country’s fixed internet market share.
To mark the milestone, a Safaricom-branded caravan will traverse 20 estates within six regions in the country (Nairobi East, Nairobi West, Coast, Mountain, Greater Western and the Rift), running as home service clinics in line with the campaign theme: “Feels Good to Be Home — Popote Ulipo”.
Customer issues, including new Safaricom Home Fibre connections, will be handled by specialist teams on the caravan, which also includes experiential zones at its various stops. The experiential setups will allow customers to interact with smart living solutions and equipment by LG. Similar activity will take place in satellite clinics at select Safaricom dealer shops across the country.
LG and Opalnet, key partners of Safaricom in introducing into the East African market, has provided some of its market-leading products, including 55-inch televisions, NeoChef Microwave Ovens, amongst other gifts valued at between KSh20,000 and KSh55,000. The gifts, six per region, will be delivered in a symbolic green box alongside surprise hampers by other partners issued to over 66 customers at the home and satellite clinics. To qualify for the rewards, customers must have used Safaricom Home Fibre services for at least six years and made consistent monthly payments.
LG’s President for East Africa, Donghun Lee, lauded the timeliness of the campaign, which he says comes at a time when his company is introducing a new bouquet of smart home appliances and equipment.
“We have now reached a time when home appliances and other electronics are getting fully connected through integrated networks, nearly all of which require capable internet linkages,” he said.
“The latest LG appliances we have on the market, for instance, incorporate the LG ThinQ AI, our proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) platform that adapts to user preferences and continually improves equipment capabilities, requires stable internet connectivity, which many of our customers continue to get through Safaricom Home Fibre.
Opalnet Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Singh added: “We celebrate Safaricom’s work in enhancing internet connectivity in the country as this enables many Kenyans to fully enjoy the capabilities of smart home electronics.”
Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, Fawzia Ali, recognized LG’s and Opalnet’s commitment to introducing the latest technologies in the region, while promising customers more advancements in home internet connectivity.
“LG has been one of our valued partners for many years, and as we celebrate 25 years of connecting Kenyans through Shangwe @25, we are thrilled to deepen this partnership by delighting our customers with LG appliances through the Green Box Experience. Collaborations like this allow us to bring not only connectivity, but also smart living experiences into homes across the country. Rewarding our loyal customers with innovative LG appliances that complement Safaricom Home Fibre is a reminder that when technology and community come together, it truly feels good to be home – popote ulipo,” she said.
She added: “Home technologies are evolving really fast and we are pleased that companies like LG are at hand to keep the East African market abreast with the rest of the world. At Safaricom, we are eager to deliver platforms on which technologies such as AI and Internet of Things (IoT) integrations can grow.
