Kenya National Police DT SACCO named Kenya’s Top Deposit-taking SACCO At Ushirika Day Awards

Kenya National Police DT SACCO has been named the Best Performing Deposit-Taking (DT) SACCO in the country after scooping the top award and five other accolades during the 104th International Day of Cooperatives (Ushirika Day) Awards held at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

The awards, presented by the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSMEs Development, Hon. FCPA Wycliffe Oparanya, EGH, recognised outstanding performance by cooperative societies in governance, financial management, innovation and member service. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki represented President William Ruto at the national celebrations.

Besides the overall award, the SACCO took first position in Capitalization and Deposit Management, finished second in Member Management and Credit Management, and placed third in the Most Improved DT SACCO category.

The latest recognition adds to an impressive run at the national awards. The SACCO was named Kenya’s Best Managed SACCO in both 2023 and 2024 after emerging among the country’s leading cooperatives in 2022, underscoring its consistency in a sector where performance is increasingly measured against governance, financial resilience and member value.

Chief Executive Officer Solomon A. Atsiaya, MBS, said the awards reflected the confidence members continue to place in the institution and the commitment of the Board of Directors, management and staff to uphold the highest standards of service.

“These awards affirm that consistency, prudent financial management and a member-first approach remain the foundation of our success. We are honoured by this recognition and deeply grateful to our members for the trust they continue to place in us. It challenges us to keep innovating and setting even higher standards for the benefit of every member we serve,” said Atsiaya.

The recognition comes against the backdrop of another strong financial year for the SACCO. According to its audited 2025 financial statements, total assets grew to KSh66.4 billion, while profit after tax rose to KSh3.03 billion, reflecting sustained growth in membership, savings mobilisation and operational performance.

Speaking during the celebrations, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki hailed Kenya’s cooperative movement as one of the most successful globally, noting that SACCOs now hold more than KSh1 trillion in member savings and continue to play a pivotal role in expanding financial inclusion and supporting enterprise development.

“The Government is implementing reforms to build transparent, professionally managed, financially resilient and technology-driven cooperative institutions that will deliver even greater value to their members,” said Kindiki.

Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya said this year’s award winners exemplified the standards the government seeks to promote across the cooperative movement, adding that strengthening governance, innovation and accountability would remain central to ongoing reforms.

“Our goal is to build a cooperative sector that is competitive, resilient and responsive to the needs of its members. Institutions that embrace sound governance, innovation and prudent financial management will continue to drive inclusive economic growth and improve livelihoods across the country,” said Oparanya.
