Beware of How Your Children Celebrate the New Year Lest They Fall Victim to Sexual Predators

KNUT has declared a teacher’s strike and the young ones could be spending more time away from school idling around while a good number of teenagers will have more time to engage in drugs, premarital sex while others will find their way into cults.
Today’s parents have been said to be a little bit too lenient and have been blamed for the young one’s moral decay.
Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed did mention it as she declared the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.
CS Amina was at an obvious loss as to how parents or guardians would be in the house while unaware of the whereabouts of their children.
As we prepare to mark the beginning of a new year, most parents will be too engulfed in their merry making that they will not notice their children stray and come 2019 at a time like this, we will be reporting an increase in teenage pregnancies and deliveries during the next National exams.
It takes exactly 40 weeks for one to carry a pregnancy and 72 hours for conception to take place, back-dating the time when teenage deliveries rose clearly shows that most of those occurred during the new year eve, back to school season or the mid-term break.
It is crucial that parents beware of the exact details of how their children celebrate the festivities to reduce the glaring statistics of teenage pregnancy.
It will be hypocrisy to say that child upbringing is a community affair, not in this century where we constantly file cases against each other when our children are reprimanded.
The Government itself has criminalized the rod yet our African proverbs did warn us of the consequences of sparing it.
Our young ones are not ashamed of being on the wrong in front of their elders if the elders are not their parents, these are the fruits we sowed as parents and we can never find a remedy if we cannot see the problem. How do we expect the same children to once train theirs any discipline?
Family planning is meant for couples who wish to space their children not for teenagers who lack morals.
Enrolling the young ones for family planning is no solution, only saves them untimely pregnancies not sexually transmitted diseases or HIV/AIDS.
It is indeed time to have that sex-talk with your children if you have not had it already, before the world confuses.
Several teenage pregnancy cases witnessed in 2018 have been attributed to sexual predators, on this one the Government should literally put a bell on such human beings to alert every child and being of their presence.
Our laws do not help in curbing molestation due to corruption, from corrupt parents who will accept bribes to drop the cases to corrupt police officers who watch evidence disappear while the whole justice system will frustrate the victim by taking too long yet we all know justice delayed is justice denied!
While KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and TSC officials continue in their tag of war, Kenyans are prepared to usher in 2019 seemingly oblivious of the crisis ahead, a scenario of two elephants fighting and the grass suffering, we will revisit how the grass did suffer come October and November 2019. Sadly for Kenya, the grass on this one is her future.
