How To Get KCSE And KCPE Certificate Online And How To Replace

Have you lost your KCPE certificate, or had it damaged?  Well, the good news is that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KCPE) implemented a policy for the replacement of certificates for cases like yours.

The body implemented a rule on 2nd March 2009 to reinstate misplaced certificates from 1981. It further stated that one can only request to replace their certificate once.

Applying In-person

Any application to a college or university requires an O-level certificate. For those requesting financial assistance through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the documents remain a useful tool for loan processing.

Hence, there is a dire need to replace any academic certificate, whether lost or damaged.

Fill KNEC certificate replacement form

Log into the KNEC website and download certificate replacement forms. You can also go to the KNEC Archives and Records offices to physically fill this document. Fill in personal data and attach the following supporting documents

  1. Copy of the certificate/ result slip
  2. Letter of completion/ recommendation letter from a school
  3. Sworn legal affidavit
  4. Police abstract indicating loss of certificate
  5. Identity Card (ID)/ passport or birth certificate
  6. KNEC bank deposit slip

The fees required for a Replacement Certificate are KE 5,000/= + 16% VAT KE 800/- a total of 5,800 per certificate. The fees should be paid at KNEC collection accounts in any branch of the following banks:

  1. Equity Bank
  2. Co-operative Bank of Kenya
  3. National Bank of Kenya
  4. Kenya Commercial Bank [KNEC deposit bank slips are available in these banks]

You can find the KNEC bank slips in either of the banks mentioned above. The bank slip should be attached as proof of payment while submitting the form

Submit the application form

After filling the form, countercheck to confirm that the details provided are accurate. Then send the documents in a sealed envelope to Council Secretary/ Chief Executive Kenya National Examination Council P.O Box 73598- 00200, City Square, Nairobi.

Once you complete the paperwork to replace a lost KCSE and KCPE certificate, you are expected to wait for sixty working days to collect the new documents. Similarly, the certificates can only be collected from the KNEC offices

Upon arrival at the office premises, applicants must present an authentic ID. Parents and guardians must accompany minors where birth certificates and original ID must be presented.

Replaced certificates must be collected within two years of application. Inability to do so will result in the document being disposed of without consultation

How to get a KCSE certificate online

Information on accessing their certificate is much needed. Gone are the days when learners had to rise in the wake of dawn to make long trips to their alma mater to collect their KCPE/KCSE certificate

Fortunately, the modern era has brought about IT developments, and the education sector has since established an automated service portal

  1. Open any browser and ensure you have a stable internet connection.
  2. Go to the KNEC website
  3. Click the ‘Results’ tab.
  4. Enter your index number and results will pop up on your screen
