Troubled Uchumi Top Gainer of the Day at the NSE

Uchumi Supermarket Ltd which was among the top losers as the market came to a close on Thursday emerged as the top gainer of the day.

The troubled retailer who is literally struggling to survive on the market gained 8.70 percent at the price of 3.75 shillings per share. The once vibrant retailer has been retailing on a negative capital for the past years and creditors had threatened to auction it, something that would have seen it winding up business.

Atlas African Industries Limited was the second gainer of the day with 7.69 percent at the price of 1.40 shillings per share. Other top gainers of the day included Marshalls (E.A) Ltd, Centum Investment Company Ltd and Total Kenya Ltd which gained 7.32, 6.17 and 4.87 percent respectively at the price of 8.80, 43.00 and 18.30 shillings per share respectively.

Crown Berger Ltd was the unlucky one as it emerged as the top loser of the day. The company lost 6.90 percent at the price of 54.00 shillings per share. E.A Portland Cement Ltd came in second as top loser with 5.26 percent at the price of 36.00 shillings per share.

Other losers of the day were Liberty Kenya Holdings Ltd, Williamson Tea Kenya Ltd and Mumias Sugar Company Ltd lost 4.38, 3.55 and 3.45 percent respectively at the prices of 15.30, 190.00 and 1.40 shillings per share respectively.
